All foreign nationals (aside from overseas Indian citizens) visiting India on a long-term visa (more than 180 days) must register with a Registration Officer within 14 days of their arrival under the Indian government’s mandatory FRRO Foreigner Registration requirement. Individuals from Pakistan who visit India must register within 24 hours of their arrival, regardless of the length of their stay. Foreign children under the age of twelve are exempt from registration procedures.
(i) All foreign individuals ( including foreigners of Indian origin) if visiting India for a long period ( more than 180 days) medical visa, student visa, Research Visa, Employment Visa, Project Visa, and Missionary Visa required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned of having jurisdiction on the place where foreigner individuals want to stay, within the 14 days of arrival. However, all Business Visa holders must register with the FRRO/ FRO concerned if their total stay in India on a Business Visa exceeds 180 days in a calendar year. (ii) Foreigners other than those listed above shall not be required to register, even if they entered India on a long-term visa, as long as their total stay in India does not exceed 180 days. If they decide to stay for a longer duration, they must register with the relevant Foreigners Registration Officer within 180 days of arrival. However, children under the age of 12 are exempt from the requirement of registration. (iii) Pakistani individuals are compulsory required to register within 24 hours of their arrival (except in the cases where they are granted EPR ( Exemption from Police Reporting) visas and on Medical visas. Pakistani nationals are required to register within 7 days of arrival in the case of a Medical Visa. (iv)No registration is necessary if a foreigner departs within 14 days of his or her arrival on the first visit under that visa.

Registration: A foreign citizen is required to register with the appropriate FRRO or FRO within 14 days of arriving in the country if their employment visa is valid for longer than 180 consecutive days. When applying for an Employment Visa, if the period of the visa will be 180 days or less, registration with the FRRO or FRO is not required.
